Fishing /Hunting 

Hunting and fishing is permitted in the national park. Glacial runoff  rivers and lakes generally do not provide good fishing. Many lakes in the areas surrounding Jostedalsbreen are habitats for trout, char, salmon and eel. Fishing permits may be obtained at the local tourist information. Many hotels, pensions, camping grounds et al. sell permits and offer boats for rent. Most rivers and lakes require a permit. Fjord fishing is free.

Special permits are required for hunting red deer and wild reindeer. Red deer hunting takes place in the period Sept. 15 – Nov.15, and permits may be obtained through the property owners. Wild reindeer hunting season is Aug.20 – Sept. 10, application for permits is mandatory. Hunting permits are required for small game as well. Everybody must pass a practical shooting examination before going hunting.
